There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You and Dr. Atraya can discuss the various options for restoring your teeth. Composite fillings, along with silver amalgam fillings, are the most widely used today.
SILVER AMALGAM FILLINGS – This material has been traditionally used for back teeth. Concerns for higher esthetics and preference for metal free fillings have lead to decrease in demand and use of the material.
COMPOSITE - A composite filling is considered as tooth colored or white filling material. It is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc. Only the decayed or affected portion of the tooth is removed and the damaged tooth structure is replaced by a composite material. Because composite fillings are tooth colored, they can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth, and are more aesthetically suited for use in front teeth or the more visible areas of the teeth.
